If you look at the IoT spectrum today, like your smart home products, it will remind you of the early days of web. Most of the "smart" products feel crappy, run poorly, and provide the worst experience.

And this is because developing IoT products is a massive engineering challenge. The knowledge set required to build high-performing internet-connected devices has never been broader. You need hardware, app, and backend engineers in your team to just build your first prototype. So it takes companies months (if not years) and millions to make it to the market.

That's where we are playing a transformational role.

We are building an IDE for IoT that takes the communication, storage, and consumption entirely out of the equation of developers, so that they can focus on what matters the most to them: their hardware.

We are making it incredibly easier and cost effective for developers and startups all over the world to get started in IoT with minimal amount of development and coding. And it is important because our future will be centered around innovations in hardware — software alone just won't cut it anymore. So in future, IoT will be essential to products in consumer hardware space, just the way we can't imagine Netflix, Uber, or Facebook without the internet.

Technically, we are doing to the internet of things what AWS did to the internet. We are on mission to democratize IoT!

About the role

Grandeur is a product-led company, so engineering is the core team of Grandeur. As a backend engineer, you will work at the core of Grandeur, that runs and manages everything. You will primarily work with the frontend team to add features to the core that support the IDE. But you will also lead on building the teams version of Grandeur. This means you get a lot of freedom, independence, and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Build reusable and consistent code and libraries for Grandeur Core.
• Develop intuitive and consistent REST APIs for Grandeur.
• Optimize Grandeur Core for speed and scalability.
• Write time-efficient database queries.
• Implement strict security and data protection at all levels: database, business logic, and API.
• Develop the authentication and authorization API for complex use cases like IAM or Role-based Access Control.
• Create multi-level database schemas that represent and support business processes.
• Perform automated and manual tests of the Grandeur API.
• Work with the Product Management and other stakeholders (Frontend etc.) to iterate on new features within the Grandeur Core.
• Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
• Consistently ship small and moderate features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projects.
• You’ll help identify areas of improvements in the code base and help contribute to make it better.

For the right candidate, additional responsibilities may include:

• Working with the Founders to construct and execute on a hiring plan to grow the engineering team.
